Koolau Business Center in the Hauula Kai Center currently publishes and distributes 6,000 free print editions of Kaleo: Koolauloa News up to 10 times a year as a community service. The newspaper is mailed to residents of record to homes in Laie (96762), Hauula (96717) and Kahuku (96731), and is also available for pick-up in various central Koolauloa locations.

Kaleo: Koolauloa News is built on the success of Kaleo o Koolauloa, a similar free community newspaper that Hawaii Reserves, Inc. (HRI), A Land Management Company in Laie, published from 1996-2005. HRI has kindly granted the new Kaleo permission to link to its online editions, but there is no official connection between the current and former publications.

Press releases and other submissions: The hard-copy edition of Kaleo will consider submissions on a space available basis. However, bear in mind our editorial policy:

  • We only cover news from or pertinent to the Koolauloa district of Oahu, or news made by or about people from this area.
  • Because we are, at best, a monthly publication in hard print, pay attention to our deadlines
  • We tend not to include stories about or from our target area that have already been well covered by the major Honolulu media.
