<description>A Mighty Craft! A replica of something close to the ancient Polynesian vaka or alia. I applaud the efforts and work poured into this project. I am Polynesian myself and do take pride of the navigations skills of the Polynesians who originated from the western pacific, southeast asia and taiwan according to scientific discoveries and studies through DNA and language studies.

These current discoveries through scientific methods counters the long holding claim held by the LDS, that Polynesians are Lamanites, thus Jews. Their claim was pronounced as gospel even by their leaders.

So my question about the Iosepa project, is this a cover up to clean up their false claims of the past by their leaders? Is this a PR to clean their image of an embarrassing false claim by their leaders? It seems so because I can't find an apology by their leaders for this embarrassing position they held for many years, thus misleading the Native Americans, Polynesians and the rest of the world.

To even take our Polynesians up another level of intellectual respect, there is also current discovery of Polynesian chicken bones found in Chile dating years way before Columbus discovered the new world. The DNA trail of these chicken bones points back to Western and Eastern Polynesia.

With these new findings should us Polynesians keep celebrating Columbus Day who brought decease, death and destruction to the native Americans?

So I challenge the LDS people to sail and display the Vaka on Oct. 13, 2008 in respect for the Polynesian Seafares that discovered South America and gave them the MOA or southeast asian chicken for their diet or consumption and NOT decease, death and destruction as Columbus and others later did.

Shall we call it "Polynesian Discovery Day"?
