Koolauloa youth agest 8-13 are invited to participate in the Jr. Olympic Skills Competition at the BYU-Hawaii Old Gym and rugby field. Participants may register at check-in.
Martha Christensen, who's had several of her children go to the nationals, explained, "This free grassroots youth participation program allows boys and girls, competing separately, the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities in four athletic events: basketball, soccer, tennis and track & field. The program is designed to encourage youth participation in sports while promoting sportsmanship."
She added the BYUH EXS (Exercise and Sports Science) CLub will host the event. "Champions from this local qualifying event will advance to one of the regional competitions across the country in hopes of going on to the national finals. Last year three Laie athletes won all-expense-paid trips to the nationals at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Come try and you could win, too."
